MISSION
In our country, which has a young population, ensuring that as many people as possible receive university education is one of our national goals. In this context, it is clear that art history education, which has an important place in the social sciences, needs to be made more widespread. Considering that the geography we live in has witnessed numerous civilizations and bears many tangible traces of them, this necessity becomes even more evident.
In addition to this general picture, more specifically, the region comprising the provinces of Tokat, Amasya, Samsun, Çorum, and Gümüşhane, also known as the Kelkit Valley or Yeşilırmak Basin, is extremely rich in tangible cultural heritage, both movable and immovable. The establishment of this department at our university, which holds an important place in the aforementioned region, is a wise decision.
As a department, our objectives are:
*To conduct and publish scientific research to preserve and promote the extremely rich historical and cultural heritage of Tokat and the surrounding region.
*To train experienced, independent, and scientifically qualified experts who can contribute to research activities in the social sciences at universities and research centers.
*To enhance academic participation and quality by establishing positive communication with students trained in accordance with the principles set by the Higher Education Council, both within the faculty and across the university.
* To facilitate the acquisition of project support from national and international project support institutions in addition to our university's research fund.
* To contribute to the identification and registration of our cultural heritage and to raise awareness of its protection in society.
Graduates can pursue academic careers by completing master's and doctoral programs; work as Art Historians under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the General Directorate of Foundations, and KUDEP; take on roles in archives, private restoration companies, and private museums; and participate in excavations.
